This section is about a multi-user (online) installation — a site where several people keep their own lists. On a single-person install there is no sign-in at all, and nothing below appears there.
Browsing the catalog, reading anime details and searching need no account. Signing in is what unlocks your own list: watch statuses, notes, Personal Synopsis, emotion marks and personal preferences.
A site runs in one of two registration modes. In invite mode (the default) creating an account needs an invite code; with a code in hand you fill in the code, a username and a password on the "Register" page. In open mode no code is asked for. The username must be 3-32 characters (letters, digits, underscore) and the password at least 8; e-mail is optional.
Without a code you can use the "Request an invite" link on the registration page and leave your e-mail with a short reason. If the request is accepted, a code is sent to you. When the quota is full, new requests may not be accepted.
Once signed in, the "Account" link at the top right shows your username, e-mail and role; the same page is where you change your password (current password + the new one twice).
There are four levels. Each level can also do everything the one before it can:
To add an anime that is missing from the catalog you (once signed in) use the "Add New Anime" form. Your entry does not go straight into the catalog list: it lands in the approval queue and waits there until a moderator reviews it.
At the bottom of an anime detail page the "Suggest a correction" box takes whatever you found wrong or missing (for example "release date is wrong", "a genre is missing") and sends it to the moderator queue. You do not need an account for this. To keep abuse down, the number of suggestions that can be sent in a short period is limited.
